Where can I get a TxTag?

Getting a TxTag and opening an account is easy. To open a TxTag account, go online to www.TxTag.org or call the Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824.

When can I contact the Customer Service Center?

The TxTag Customer Service Center is open to assist you Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You may call 1-888-468-9824, or visit our walk-up counters in Austin at 12719 Burnet Road.

Can I save money if I get a TxTag?

Yes. TxTag customers always pay the lowest rates on toll roads across Texas.

In Austin, drivers with an electronic toll tag pay 10% less than cash customers. Pay By Mail customers pay one-third more than drivers with a toll tag to offset costs related to processing the license plate information. In addition, drivers who Pay By Mail are charged a $1 administrative fee on each monthly bill.

Can I use my TollTag (NTTA) or EZ TAG (HCTRA) to pay tolls in Austin?

Yes. Drivers with a TollTag from the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) or EZ TAG from the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) may use TxTag express lanes and will have toll charges automatically deducted from their toll account. Be sure to keep your toll account information current to avoid incorrect charges.

What is "Pay By Mail"?

Drivers on Austin toll roads have the option to receive a monthly bill in the mail. Cameras above the toll lanes will photograph the license plate on vehicles without a toll tag, and the vehicle owner will receive a monthly bill for toll charges. The Pay By Mail toll rates are one-third more than TxTag rates to offset costs related to processing the license plate information. Also, a $1 administrative fee is applied to each monthly bill.

How often will I be billed?

If you have a TxTag account, your tolls will be deducted automatically from your account when you use the road. If you do not have a TxTag, you will receive a bill every month that you carry a balance.

What is the $1 charge on my bill?

A dollar fee is applied to each monthly bill sent to customers without a TxTag. The fee helps offset the costs related to processing the bills. The fee is $1 regardless of how many times you use the road each month. You may ask to receive your bill by email at no charge.

Do I have to pay if someone else was driving my car on the toll road?

Yes. The vehicle owner is responsible for any toll charges, regardless of who was driving. If you are concerned about a bill, please call the TxTag Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824.

How do I update the information on my TxTag account?

You can update your address and phone numbers by logging into your account on www.TxTag.org or by calling the TxTag Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824.

What should I do if my TxTag is lost, stolen or damaged?

Call the TxTag Customer Service Center immediately. Until you notify us, you are liable for any tolls, fees and charges on your account. Please note that there may be a charge to replace lost or stolen tags.

What if I sell my vehicle?

If you have a TxTag, please call the TxTag Customer Service Center right away to deactivate your tag so your account is not linked to a vehicle you no longer own. Also, visit the TxDOT website if you need to transfer the vehicle registration to the new owner, so you are not billed for new toll charges.

I think the bill I received was incorrect. What should I do?

To discuss a bill, contact the TxTag Customer Service Center at 1-888-468-9824.

I am a TxTag, TollTag or EZ TAG customer. Why did I get a bill?

  1. You could receive a bill if your tag was not read and the license plate on file for your tag does not match the license plate on your vehicle.
  2. You could receive a bill if the credit card information on file with your account is not up-to-date.
  3. If you're a TxTag customer, you could receive a bill requesting payment if you did not have enough money in your account to cover the cost of your tolls.

Who has access to the license plate information that TxDOT collects to issue bills?

TxDOT understands the privacy concerns of its customers and will protect your private information. License plate and vehicle registration information will not be disclosed to third parties without the vehicle owner's consent except as permitted by law and the policies of TxDOT.
